Piano Scholarships Overview
There are three types of scholarships currently available in the Portland metro area.
Each PSF scholarship places a piano in the home of the student and provides a balanced program of education, motivation, and support. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of need, merit, and accountability. All of our scholarship students receive the following benefits:
- In-home use of a piano
- Piano tuning and maintenance annually throughout the term of the scholarship
- Performance opportunities
- Access to the music library with over 1,500 books and sheet music
- Monthly student newsletter
1) Standard Scholarship
The Standard Scholarship is our entry-level scholarship and awards the use of an upright piano for up to three years. Standard Scholarships are awarded year-round.
Qualifications:
- 7 to 13 years of age
- Student must reside in the PSF service area.
- Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music
- Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term

2) Stepping Stone Scholarship
The Stepping Stone Scholarship awards the use of a grand piano to a current or past student of PSF for two years.
Qualifications:
- Current PSF student or past PSF student
- 7 to 16 years of age
- Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music
- Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term

3) Grand Scholarship Competition
Multiple winners can receive the use of a grand piano in their homes for up to 2 years, including moving costs, annual tuning, and maintenance.
Applications Due: May 22, 2026
Auditions: June 13, 2026
Qualifications:
- 12 to 16 years of age
- All income levels are eligible to apply.
- Student must reside in the PSF service area. Please see application for details.
- Completed OMTA syllabus level 6 or equivalent.
- Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music.
- Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term
