Scholarships

PSF scholarships place pianos in the homes of students and provide a balanced program of education, motivation and support.  Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of need, merit, and accountability. All of our scholarship students receive the following benefits:

      • In-home use of a piano
      • Piano tuning and maintenance annually throughout the term of the scholarship
      • Performance opportunities
      • Access to the music library with over 1,500 books and sheet music
      • Monthly student newsletter
      • Student notebook / portfolio

There are three types of scholarships currently available to students / families in the Portland metro area. 

Standard Scholarship

wwwThe Standard Scholarship is our entry-level scholarship, and awards the use of an upright piano for up to three years.  Standard Scholarships are awarded year round.

 Qualifications:

      • 7 to 13 years of age
      • Student must reside in the PSF service area.  Please see application for details.
      • Meets requirements for free and reduced lunch program at local schools or equivalent
      • Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music
      • Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term

Stepping Stone Scholarship

The Stepping Stone Scholarship awards the use of a grand piano to a current or past student of PSF for two years.

 Qualifications:

      •  Current PSF student or past PSF student
      •  7 to 16 years of age
      •  Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music   
      •  Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term

Grand Scholarship

Applications Due:  May 12, 2017

Auditions:  June 10, 2017

The Grand Scholarship Competition is held every year in June.  Students audition before a music jury and the winner is awarded the use of a grand piano for two years.  Check back in February for information about the 2016 Grand Scholarship Competition

Qualifications:

      •  12 to 16 years of age
      •  Student must reside in the PSF service area.  Please see application for details.
      •  Completed OMTA syllabus level 6 or equivalent
      •  Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music
      •  Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term

Winter Grand Scholarship

The Winter Grand Scholarship Competition is held other every year during the winter months. 

Students audition before a music jury and the winner is awarded the use of a grand piano for two years. 

Qualifications:

      •  12 to 16 years of age   
      •  Student must reside in the PSF service area.  Please see application for details.   
      •  Completed OMTA syllabus level 6 or equivalent       
      •  Demonstrates a strong desire to play piano and motivation to learn music      
      •  Actively enrolled in regular piano lessons for the duration of the scholarship term
